Disabled/Elderly Transit Options

  • Village to Village Network
    For a nominal annual fee, persons with disabilities or seniors can obtain transportation to medical appointments, social events, and other. Seniors 90+ years old are free. .

  • MetroAccess Paratransit
    MetroAccess is a shared-ride, door-to-door, paratransit service for people whose disability prevents them from using bus or rail. If you think you may need paratransit service, see their eligibility requirements.

  • Abilities Ride (a new ride for MetroAccess customers)
    This program provides same day service, no shared ride, and is wheelchair accessible. Eligibility determined by Medical Assistance. Service providers are as follows: 1. Regency Taxi featuring $5 flat fare for all trips up to 9 miles. Regency can be reached at (301) 990- 9100 or online at http://reservations.regencytaxi.com/ ; 2. Silver Cab featuring variable fare with $5 covering trips up to 7 miles. Silver Cab can be reached at (301) 277-6000 or online at http://www.coachtransportation.com/ .   • Donations from the Heart
    Donations From The Heart offers transportation assistance to those who lack the transportation to get to doctor’s visits and are unable to drive themselves. The program also provides assistance to those transitioning back to work that have come out of half-way houses and temporary housing whose budgets cannot support public transportation costs. Smart Trip Cards and discounted cab service are underway via negotiations with various agencies and transportation companies.   • God's Distribution Center, Inc.
    God's Distribution Center is a nonprofit organization formed for charitable purposes. It is not a church. This program aims at helping not only the needy and the disadvantaged but also those who have suddenly found themselves in unfortunate circumstances and difficult times by providing transportation, food and clothing.   • Mercy Medical
    A national nonprofit organization known as America’s Charitable Medical Transportation System. The mission is to ensure that no one in need is denied medical care due to a lack of transportation. Provides travel for low-income patients by providing bus tickets for subway, train tickets for Amtrak or gas cards if a friend can drive or an automobile is available or transport can be provided by a volunteer long-distance driver. Patients (with or without escort) must be ambulatory and require no medical monitoring or care en route. These trips are for non-local medical care or for patients returning home after a distant appointment or hospitalization. The typical trip does not exceed 300 miles.   • Vehicles for Change
    Vehicles for Change empowers families with financial challenges to achieve economic and personal independence through car ownership and technical training. VFC receives 99 percent of its car donations from the public. They repair cars that meet quality standards and award them for as little as $750 to eligible families who are referred by social service agencies.

  • 1-800-Charity-Cars
    They provide donated vehicles to struggling families in need of transportation. The Charity Cars assistance program will provide a vehicle that has been refurbished to ensure both reliability and safety of the vehicle. They may also provide a license plate, the down-payment to pay for insurance bills, a service warranty to help with future repairs, and also case management services to eligible families.
